We all remember our parents or a teacher telling us to "sit up straight" or "watch your posture". At the time we probably thought of it as a nuisance, but they were actually trying to help us form a habit that has a huge impact on how our bodies work each and every day.

How you carry yourself through your posture helps determine how well your muscles work, how well your organs function, how smoothly your nerves, your blood vessels and your lymph passages work and how strong your bones are. Pretty amazing, isn't it? Your posture affects every single part of your body.

If you spend the majority of your day sitting, at a desk, in front of a computer, on the couch or at a table, chances are that your posture is causing you a great deal of harm. Improving your posture may be as simple as improving the chair that you are sitting on or the area that you are working at. It might be as involved as changing the environment that you are in frequently each day in order to help your body work the best that it is capable of working.

Support cushions for your back are one of the best ways to help improve your posture while you are sitting. Special shoe inserts, called orthotics, might be needed for you to have the best posture you are capable of if you spend a good deal of time (30 minutes or more at a time) on your feet daily.
